Donna Burnham was a special human being and I was blessed beyond measure for knowing her. In 1987 I was a young and clueless new mommy, feeling completely overwhelmed with a new baby and no idea what I was doing. At the very height of my desperation, the good Lord must’ve heard my prayers because he sent me an angel. Donna Burnham showed up at my door.
Donna was love and light; a calming presence with a sweet smile and a great laugh. But more than just a skilled medical professional, Donna brought the wisdom of a mother who’d raised 3 generations of her own remarkable children. A caregiver at heart, Donna had a magical way of ‘mothering’ that I aspired to and to this day I am eternally grateful for all that I learned from her. I believe her influence helped to make me the mother that I am.
Donna was family to us and ‘little’ Kita and Tara, my daughter’s very first best-friends. The sound of little feet running around our house (and Donna reprimanding them!) and their happy little voices at play, all of it was like music to my ears in those days and I hear it’s still.
We all mourn her passing but Donna was one of those special people whose light burns so brightly in life that even after they are gone it still shines. She lit the way for us all those years ago and she will never be forgotten.
Anyone who knew Donna Burnham was better for it. When she showed up at my door that day it took no time at all for me to take her into my heart and that is where she’ll stay.
I thank her family for sharing her with us. She leaves a shining legacy of love.
