It sounds like it has all been said about how much pleasure Mark created here at Stones River National Battlefield and beyond for both visitors and staff. Well we can’t bragg about him enough, we will miss him walking in stoked up with that can’t wait for that first visitor or small child to walk through those doors. Then they came out with plenty, quality info, fun trivia, junior ranger badges and the broadest of smiles. I’ll miss the smiles he brought me & our staff over his Wolfman Jack stories, sharing our similar likes in triva music and more. My last interaction with Mark was his excitment about questions he had for places in the NPS that he wanted to volunteer in, and if I had anything I could share about them. It was like a kid looking forward to picking a candy bar he had not tried before with over 400 flavors. God bless you Mark and your son which spoke so pround of and family.

It was with great sorrow that I learned of Mark being called from life on this earth. As a fellow volunteer at Stones River National Battlefield it was my privilege that I came to know him. I shall always cherish the occasion when Mark enrolled six of my great grandchildren into the ranks of Junior Rangers. He had the uncanny ability to make each child feel special. His gift to make all visitors gain the impression that their visit was most welcome and important will truly be missed. May all his family and friends find peace in the knowledge that the Lord had created a special individual in the person of Mark.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of Mark’s family and friends. We (I) miss him here at Stones River National Battlefield. He was a special person who brought much to our park and enriched our lives and that of our visitors. His sunny, positive spirit was a bright spot in my life. Mark was more than a brother to me, he was one of my closest friends. I admired his sense of adventure and shared his love for travel. I will miss having him to push me outside my comfort zone and encourage Andy and I both to live life to the fullest. While we always thought we were teaching him, we now realize how much he taught us and we will always be grateful to him.I know Mark is in Heaven now rockin’ out with the Angels and hopefully a long time from now I will see him again one day. It was my personal honor to work with Mark as volunteers at Stones River National Battlefield/Cemetery. Although he and I worked different days, I did have opportunity to work one day with him. Mark was a tremendously outgoing person. I thoroughly enjoyed the day with him. I realize he has left a tremendous void in the lives of his family. All of us at Stones River National Battlefield grieve with you during this saddest of times. Since joining our team in October, Mark has been a source of inspiration for our visitor services staff. He came to work every day full of enthusiasm, eager to learn more about our park and share that with the public. He had an uncanny ability to connect with our visitors always making them feel like they were coming home as they walked into our visitor center.It’s hard to imagine someone so full of energy, curiosity and empathy could be taken from us so suddenly. We all feel blessed to have had the chance to welcome Mark into our park family even for such a short time.Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Mark’s family and friends. We will treasure the time we spent together bringing joy into the lives of hundreds of people who visited our park during his stay.
