Basil Peter Shropulos
February 23, 1917 - March 22, 2022
Basil’s remarkable 105 years of life were always centered around and devoted to his love for his faith and family. The great blessing of his longevity is truly an inspiration and a special life to be celebrated. He and his lovely wife Helen, blessedly married for 69 years, lovingly raised their three daughters and were always very active at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Dallas. Basil served his church from an Altar Boy to Parish Council President, including his active membership in the Order of Ahepa. He was honored and recognized each new year at Holy Trinity as the eldest in the community on a day devoted to St. Basil’s Academy. The oldest son of Greek immigrants, he became a lifelong Dallasite and steadfastly operated his business, the Quality Food Store on lower Greenville Avenue, for 40 years. He later worked with his son-in-law and daughter, Theodore and Penny, at their restaurants, Gulf Coast Oyster Co. and Theodore’s, and was beloved by all the regular customers. Basil was also a thespian at heart with a gift for song, as he would constantly serenade Helen, which brought him great joy. He always cherished his involvement in a musical he performed with church members and family. His life is a treasure to us all, and his grandsons, Peter and Basil Koutsogeorgas, proudly carry on his name with love and honor. Private services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Dallas, Texas, and interment at Restland Funeral Home.
