Chanchai Boonthunyaluk
April 20, 1954 - February 17, 2022
Chanchai Boonthunyaluk (DOB-04/20/1954) (67), of Grand Prairie, TEXAS Chanchai was born in Bangkok, Thailand, the 7th in a large family of 11 children. He first came to the U.S. in search of new educational horizons in 1973, and returned to Thailand with a Bachelor’s from Chico State and an MBA from Abilene Christian University. In 1983, he married the love of his life and they completed with their family with a daughter in 1985 and a son in 1987. In 1999, he returned to the U.S. with his family in tow, eager to give his two children the same opportunities he enjoyed. Chai was a passionate golfer, heading out to the course as often as he could. Also an avid cook, he loved preparing meals (including absolutely magical BBQ pork) for his extended family and particularly relished the looks in their eyes when they got to enjoy his cooking. In recent years, he picked up gardening as a way of creating fresh ingredients like chili and basil to complement his favorite recipes and always made sure that his new plant family was well looked after. More than all else, Chai will be remembered for his deep love and care for his family. A middle child in a large family, he was a welcome source of entertainment at family gatherings and could always be relied on for a good game of name that tune with classics from the 60s & 70s (“Do you remember this one?”). He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and absolutely treasured every moment he could spend with his loved ones. Up until the end, he was always watching out for those dearest to him – even attempting to coordinate his wife’s car inspection from his hospital bed – and was incredibly proud of all his children were able to accomplish. He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one brother; and his favorite dog, Yoshi. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Jad, daughter May, son Tul, granddaughter Claire, favorite son in law Peter, second favorite dog Cookie, several brothers and sisters, and many nephews, nieces, and relatives in the U.S. and abroad. A memorial service will be held at Restland Funeral 13005 Greenville Avenue Dallas, TX 75243 On Wednesday March 2, 2022 at 2:00pm.
