Charles Mannon Whitaker

Charles Mannon Whitaker age 82 of Dallas, Texas was born on September 26, 1939, in Danville, Kentucky to Mannon Walter Whitaker and Hannah Elizabeth Acker. He passed away on March 7, 2022. Charles spent his early years in Paducah, Kentucky. Following the end of World War II, The family moved to Lexington where he met the love of his life, Gene G. Germain, in the band hall at Lafayette High School. The couple married on July 13, 1963. Charles held a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky and retired after a lifelong career in radar systems as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Texas Instruments. Charles served as the president of the Texas Astronomical Society. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Association of Old Crows. He served in the National Guard. As a young man, he obtained a private pilot's license and enjoyed flying, boating, and camping. He was a skilled HAM radio operator and loved electronic gadgets of all kinds. Charles had a passion for cars and was a lifetime member and photographer of the Corvette Club of Texas. He attended Spring Valley United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his father, Mannon Walter Whitaker, his mother Hannah Elizabeth Acker, and his loving wife of fifty-one years Gene G. Whitaker. Charles is survived by his sister Anne Owen Whitaker of Brookline, Massachusettes. His daughter Anne Elizabeth Whitaker and granddaughter Mason Elizabeth Crumpacker of Dallas, Texas. His son Walter Thomas Whitaker, his daughter-in-law Funda Calapover Whitaker and his grandson Derin Thomas Whitaker of St. Louis, Missouri. Visitation will be held on March 18 from 7:00-8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on March 19 at 2:00 pm in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Dallas.
