David Lee McKnight

David L. McKnight, age 80, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, April 10, with his children at his side. David was born on April 13, 1941 to Eugene and Marguerite McKnight in Springfield, Massachusetts and raised in Charleston, West Virginia. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1964 – 1969. Following, he began a career in sales with Emory Industrial Services. After a successful blind-date introduction, David married Dorothy Durning on June 21, 1969, in Dallas Texas. Together, they celebrated the births of daughter Martha in 1976 and son Lewis in 1979. After a 40-year career David retired from Washington Systems Inc. in 2001. Over his long career he maintained a reputation for quality customer service and received the greatest fulfillment from providing for his family. David was an enthusiastic fan of Dallas sports teams including the Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers and most especially the Dallas Cowboys. He relished sun-soaked beach vacations and was a connoisseur of ice cream. An avid Frank Sinatra fan, it will surprise no one who knew David that his favorite song was “My Way.” He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene (Gene) Audrey and Marguerite Buchanan McKnight and survived by his wife Dorothy Durning McKnight of Dallas, Daughter Martha her husband Paul Kuykendall of Plano, son Lewis and his wife LizzyMcKnight of Dallas, and five grandchildren: Andrew (16), Rachel (14), and Brandon (10) Kuykendall, and Emmeline (6) and Aubrie (4) McKnight. A memorial service will be held at Restland Funeral Home, Wildwood Chapel on April 21st at 2 PM and immediately following will be a reception across the street at The Event Center.
