Doris L. Friedell passed away on Friday, Jan 28, 2022 in Mt Pleasant, Texas at the age of 83. Born in Brooklyn, New York she was a long-time resident of Dallas, Texas, and a graduate of UT Dallas. Doris loved to paint, sculpt and wood carve. She also enjoyed volunteering for the preservation and maintenance of the historical Lee Cemetery and was the author of Lee Cemetery under six flags: 1831-1913, Roxton, Lamar County, Texas. Doris’ true love was being an amateur Archeologist. She was a former member of the Dallas Archeological Society involved with collecting and preserving Native American Indian artifacts. She was also a Founding Member of the Dallas Paleontological Society involved with prominent Society fossil excavations, preservation, and assembling fossil skeletons for museum display. She assisted with the reconstruction of the Ice Age Columbian Mammoth and Mosasaurus skeletons that are on permanent display at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas. She was also one of the many volunteers to assist in unearthing a herd of Columbia Mammoths discovered, in Waco, which is today known as the Waco Mammoth National Monument. Doris, known as “Paleo Aunt” was an inspiration in creating other “Fossil Hunters”, including three generations of amateur paleontologists within her family. She is survived by two sons, Richard E. Friedell Jr, his wife Jean and William R. Friedell, his partner Mickey; two daughters Tracy L. Friedell and Linnea R. Friedell; 2 grandchildren: Christine, Mark, and predeceased by William Jr. Doris is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren: Ian, Alexis, and Audrianna; brother William E. Franson, his wife Shirlee; niece Gwen E. Honor, her husband Mike; nephews Robert W. Wagner, his wife Valerie, David W. Franson and Andrew J. Franson, his wife Shirley; brother-in-law William A. Wagner and predeceased by her sister Anita M. Wagner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Graveside service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 11, 2022 at Restland Cemetery in Dallas.
