Elizabeth Jane Thurmond

February 14, 1927 - March 8, 2022

Elizabeth (Liz, Janie) Thurmond, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, in Dallas, Texas, at Baylor Hospital. She was born to Cleve Clark Nelson and Ruth Smith on February, 14, 1927, in Dallas, also at Baylor Hospital. Liz will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Thurmond and Julie Floto (husband Russ Floto), her granddaughter MacKenzie Lee Floto, and her sister Ruth Thomas, along with cherished nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband James Edward Thurmond, and her brother Cleve C. Nelson, Jr. Liz was a devoted and faithful servant of the Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church. She was a lifetime member of the Dallas Genealogical Society, tracing at least one of the family threads back to the American Revolution. Liz treasured her friends and embraced life, staying active in a variety of hobbies and activities until she passed. A graveside service was held at Restland Cemetery on Friday, March 25, 2022. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 1:00 pm, at Central Christian Church, 4711 Westside Drive, Dallas, Texas. A reception will follow there in the Fellowship Hall.
