Ernest James Hammond

Ernest James “Ernie” Hammond of Carrollton, Texas, beloved husband of Deanna Hammond, passed into the presence of Jesus peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. He was born in Oxford, Kansas on December 30, 1940 to parents Roy and Elma Hammond. Ernie attended Independence Junior College, in Independence, Kansas, and was in the United Stated Air Force from 1962-1966. He married the love of his life, Deanna Rose LeGrande, on June 14, 1964. After his Air Force career, Ernie taught at Iowa Tech. In 1974, he moved his family to Texas to work under good friend and boss, Del Knowler, at National Share Graphics/Curtis Media as a Senior Programmer. He retired in 2010. He loved spending his free time with friends and family, doing woodworking projects, and most of all playing his trumpet and trombone. Ernie played in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Orchestra, Town North Concert Band, and New Horizons Band. He also enjoyed being a part of the Senior Adult Ministry and Care-ciple group at Prince of Peace Lutheran church, where he made lifelong friends. Ernie is survived by his wife, Deanna Hammond(Carrollton, TX); son Marty and wife Tiffany Hammond (Montgomery, TX); son Craig Hammond (Carrollton, TX); daughter Sally Schroeder and husband Chris (Carrollton, TX); grandchildren Jay Hammond (Roy, UT); Nick Hammond and wife Shalanda (Roy,UT); Joel Hammond and wife Alissa (Roy, UT); Seth Hammond and wife CassaDee (Henefer, UT); Zac Cooper (Naval Station Norfolk, VA); Logan Cooper (Montgomery, TX); Malea Cooper (Montgomery, TX); Emma Cooper (Montgomery,TX); Allan Schroeder (Carrollton, TX); Craig Schroeder (Denton, TX); Hayden Schroeder (Carrollton, TX); great-grandchildren, Derringer Hammond (Roy, UT); Scarlett Hammond (Henefer, UT); Eleana Cooper (Montgomery, TX), sister in-law and husband Gloria and Merritt Andreasen (Fremont, NE); sister in-law and husband Gorlene and Jesse Jergensen (Waterloo, NE); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Elma Hammond, sister and brother in-law Ruth and Lee Woodrum, and grandson Christopher Martin Hammond. Ernie’s legacy will live on through family for many years to come. He taught his family to love the Lord, and gave them a great love of music. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry or Senior Adult Ministry at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. The Celebration of Life for Ernest James Hammond will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 11:00am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church located at 4000 Midway Road in Carrollton, Texas. A luncheon will follow the service in the fellowship hall. A graveside service with military honors will take place at 2:00pm at Restland Cemetery.
