Evalyn Marie Penner Haynes
September 11, 1925 - January 8, 2022
Haynes, Evalyn Marie Penner, 96 passed away of pneumonia on January 8, 2022. Lyn was born September 11, 1925, to Cecilia Magdalene Sutton and George Frederick Penner in Oak, NE, the eldest daughter of nine children. After graduating high school, she was accepted into the Army Nurse Cadet Corps and began her nurses training at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings NE. Lyn always said that one of the greatest disappointments her life was that World War II ended before she has a chance to serve. During her nurses training, she met her future husband and love of her life William Alexander “Alex” Haynes at a USO dance in Hastings. After the war ended, they settled in San Diego, CA. and started their family. After several job transfers, Alex and Lyn moved to Richardson, where they fell in love with the town’s friendly, family oriented atmosphere. Family always came first with Lyn; she was a loving, hands on mom who encouraged her daughters to chase their dreams. She spent countless hours with each of her daughters, volunteering with Camp Fire Girls, helping with science projects and homework, and riding skateboards when dared by them. Lyn also continued her RN career in Texas, ultimately specializing in neurological nursing at Medical City Dallas Hospital, until her retirement in 1995. Besides her family and nursing, Lyn enjoyed interior decorating, and loved styling her house to be beautiful, comfortable, and welcoming for all. Her good taste extended to fashion and clothing, with the effortless elegance that was her signature style throughout her life. Lyn was a loving wife and mother, and she will be greatly missed by her family, neighbors, and friends. Lyn is predeceased by her beloved husband Alex (2012) and eldest daughter Crystal Lyn Haynes (2018); she is survived by her daughters Kelley Haynes and Stephanie Haynes (Douglas Horn), grandson Sean Smith and son in law Joel Hamilton. Visitation followed graveside services will be held at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery on February 17, 2022, at 11:30 AM.
