Homer Donald Jennings
March 18, 1929 - March 4, 2022
Homer was born to Richard Earl and Lillian Moses Jennings in Lisbon, Texas. It was located in the south-central area of Dallas County just a few miles south of downtown Dallas. He was the fourth of four sons born to the couple who later had two daughters and raised their family in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas where Homer spent most of his younger life. He graduated from Adamson High School in 1946. He married and was blessed by three children. Sadly, the marriage ended. He later met the love of his life. They married in 1977 and formed a blended family. Homer led a very active life. He was a deacon and was devoted to working in First Baptist Church of Garland. He was an enthusiastic member of Gideons International. He also loved volunteering at The Friendship House, loved music and playing soft ball and volleyball. He worked for several companies before he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service. During the Korean Conflict, Homer was drafted into the U.S. Army. Upon his return from the military, he rejoined the Postal Service. He worked as a station manager, then retired after 37 years. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Joy Christian Jennings; daughter, Janice Jennings Johnson; sons, Larry (Sandra) and Michael (Jana) Jennings; stepsons, Beryl (Donna) and Phil (Deb) Christian; sixteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by stepson Keith Christian. Homer went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2022. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to: The Gideons International, P.O.
