Mildred Thompson-Brown
September 8, 1945 - January 24, 2022
"I read of man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend; He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning to the end; He noted first came the date of the birth and spoke the following date with tears; But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between the years" ----by Linda Ellis Mildred was born in New Summerfield, Texas to the parentage of Berry and Lillian Thompson. She passed away at home Monday, January 24th, surrounded by her husband and daughters. She attended public school in Cherokee County, (New Summerfield, Texas) and finished high school at G.W. Bradford in Rusk, Texas. Mildred went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Bishop College. It was at Bishop College where she met her husband, Kennard (Ken) Brown, and they were married in September 1966. That marriage lasted until her death. She was preceded in death by her father, Berry Thompson, and her brother Harrell Thompson. Mildred leaves to honor her "dash" her husband of 55 years; daughters, Kennaria Brown (Berea, KY) and Kyria Brown-Lemke (Steve) and grandson, Ken J Lemke (all of Plano, Texas); Mother, Lillian Thompson-Duffie, sister, Wynalla Guice-Pierce (husband Michael - deceased), brother, Eric Thompson (Gladys), all of Jacksonville, Texas; brother Alfred (Carrie) (Houston, Texas), and a whole host of nieces and nephews. Mildred put her career on hold for a number of years while she raised their two daughters and moved around the county in support of her husband's career. The family moved back to Dallas in 1990. Mildred and her husband re-connected with St. Luke Community United Methodist Church and Mildred started work at E-Systems Corp. That company was later purchased by Raytheon Systems, from which she retired in May 2013. During her tenure with Raytheon, Mildred was the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions. Most of all, she made a host of lifelong friends. Since retirement, and until the pandemic, Mildred was very active with meeting ex-coworkers, family members or friends for lunch or some other type of social event. A very special time for her was to have a long lunch with her sister-in-law (adopted big sister) Glenna Martin. Mildred loved her involvement participating in events with her book club "BESURE" and working with the Keenagers group at St. Luke. Mildred enjoyed reading, visiting museums and attending the guest lecture series at Southern Methodist University. She was a special aunt to many of her nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews who she was always listening to, coaching and encouraging them along their life's path. Most of all Mildred's passion was traveling. Prior to her husband's retirement from corporate life, she would alternate taking one of their daughters on an international trip, or she would go alone or with a friend. After Ken's retirement from corporate life, they traveled globally together. Mildred stood out as a compassionate leader. On international cruises it was very common for elderly women who were traveling together to gravitate to her for advice and assurances relating to various tours and ship activities. Mildred leaves a deep void in the lives of family and friends that can hardly be filled by anyone else. All who came to know Mildred, family, friends and strangers, felt that it was a special blessing to have shared a length of their journey with her. Rest in peace, Mildred. Those who have known you know that the work that you have done while on earth is the story of your dash. The family respectfully asks that all those attending please wear a mask.
