Bobbie Carolyn Walker Shelton's Obituary
Bobbie Carolyn Walker Shelton started her earthly journey on October 8, 1925 in Blossom, TX. She was the oldest of 8 beautiful girls born to John and Rosie Walker. She attended Blossom public schools. As the oldest she had the responsibility of being a role model to her younger sisters. Upon her mother’s death she became the matriarch of the family – following in her footsteps building character and instilling moral values of love of God & family, kindness, honesty, dependability, accountability, loyalty, and trustworthiness to mention a few. Bobbie always had an ear to listen – a shoulder to lean on…and she often imparted her Pearls of Wisdom. She loved to laugh and that’s one thing she shared with her family freely….as well as her unconditional love for them. She united in marriage with the one and only love of her life L. J. Shelton on July 3rd, 1948 and spent 55 years of wedded bliss with him until his death in 2004. He loved her and she loved him. She faithfully kept her vows and took care of him til the day he died. During their union Bobbie and L. J. became parents of one son Stanley J whom they loved and adored. The Sheltons traveled all over the US enjoying great adventures. Bobbie also loved cruising and traveling with her sisters. Bobbie worked a few jobs including an order puller at Texas Instruments until she found her niche. After completing courses she became a masseuse. She first worked for National Health Studios and then ventured out on her own. She even maintained a small clientele late into her 70’s. Bobbie was active in the civil rights movement of the 60’s. One of her most prized possessions was a photograph she took standing next to the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on one of his visits to Dallas while she was working with the youth group at Good Street Baptist Church. Bobbie was very active in that church and later with St James AME Church where she worked steadfastly and held several positions over the years. Bobbie loved her church and was a faithful member for 65 years serving along side her husband and continuing after his death until her health began to fail. Her last charge as Stewardess she performed until her health permitted her to perform her duties in spirit only. She also continued to financially support her home church she loved so much Oak Hill Baptist Church of Blossom, TX. While living in Amarillo the last few years she attended Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church with her sister Johnnie and Rehoboth Christian Worship Center with her niece Tami. The Sheltons were among the first families to purchase a home in the now historical Hamilton Park neighborhood and resided there for over 50 years and Bobbie played an active role as community civic member for many years. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents; uncle, George Lee Jr; aunt, Loraine Sapp; brother, Sylvester Walker; sisters, Katherine Bogan, Wilma Redwine, Rose Walker, Tommie Thomas, and Pasty Ridley; niece, Denise Lawrence; nephews, Roger Jackson, Gene Lentz, Marvin Ridley, Don Ridley, John Ridley and Brian Thomas; and her husband L.
