I had not seen Donnetta since high school but reconnected with her at one of our reunions. She was staying at one of the hotels where we were and we rode together. My husband and I left that evening with such a respect and admiration for her. I did not know she graduated from Baylor and surpassed me! I went 3 years to Texas Tech and married my senior year. Thank you Donnetta for sweet memories. Sending our condolences to her family with the comfort that she is now free and enjoying her resurrected body with Jesus.

In 2023 following my hospitalization, I was transferred to Hollymead (where Donnetta lived). During my 2 week stay we had several nice visits. While I was a patient, the staff (one nurse in particular) were less than compassionate and helpful at times. When released I had my “post care” meeting, which ended a very loud and angry departure.

Two weeks later, after I had been at home, Alissa’s phone rang. It was Donnetta! She was talking loudly, but not legible. Alissa said, ‘Donnetta, stop take a breathe and talk slowly so I can understand you.’

Donnetta did so, then very clearly yelled, ‘Dann got his nurse fired, Dann got his nurse fired!!!!’

Unfortunate as it was, Alissa and I laughed so loud, because it was something that Donnetta felt so strongly about, and had experienced the same type care multiple times there over the past decade.

I miss you girl! You’ve endured well and now it’s time for your peace!
