William Gaston Adkins' Obituary
William Gaston Adkins of Mesquite, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on June 1, 2016 after a protracted battle with cancer. Gaston was born in Dallas, Texas on April 17, 1934. The only child of the late Richland A. Adkins (1899-1953) and Mattie Lee (Gaston) Adkins (1900- 1991). Gaston was born and raised in Oak Cliff Texas. He is a graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas, Texas,1952; the University of Texas, Austin, Texas; 1961, and the Preston Road School of Preaching, 1984. Gaston was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, and served within the Church as an educator, deacon and elder. After a long & successful career as an accountant, he left the business world to fully dedicate his energies and life to serving the Lord as an outreach and pulpit minister at the Sunset Church of Christ in Oak Cliff (Dallas), Texas. In addition to his work as a minister, Gaston also worked for the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired in 1996. Gaston is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joann (Conner) Adkins, children; Eric & Debbie-Jo Adkins of Burbank, California; Louann & Larry Hall of Garland, Texas; Alan & Teresa Adkins of Mesquite, Texas. Additionally, seven grandchildren; Jamie, Julie, Molly, Allie, Meagan, Alex, Jason and one great-grandchild; Jaxon. Family will receive friends & loved ones from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home. Services in memorial of Gaston will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. Internment to immediately follow. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
