Dr. O'Brien's surgical skills and comforting good nature were instrumental to my own successful treatment, some 18 years ago. At the end of our follow-up check-ups he would kick back and regale me and my wife with stories galore as he took a sincere interest in how we were faring. It was a privilege to have been his patient, and a student of his philosophy... that healing also relies on one's faith, family, and friends. My faith then and now includes belief in medicine and science, and in the goodness of others, especially that of Dr. John C. O'Brien III.

I absolutely adored Dr. O'Brien. He was the epitome of grace and excellence as a surgeon and human being. My favorite story of his was that he wanted a pair of cowboy boots while in grammar school. Some other kid who was his nemesis in school had a pair and he wanted those. He never got them. I worked for Drs. Liberman, O'Brien and Derrick in the early 90's and it was and will always be one of my most favorite places to work. Mostly, because of the doctors and who they were as human beings. Nothing but love and prayers for the O'Brien Family.
