Ann Gerlach's Obituary
Ann Gerlach of Rowlett, Texas passed away on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025. She was born on December 5, 1929 in Mt. Calm, Texas to Stephen and Violet Callaway. She married Robert Ramsel Gerlach in August of 1955. She loved her dog, Midnight. She also loved to eat chocolate and ice cream. She loved to bowl and bowled well into her eighties with her son and grandsons, and was very proud when she saw her son bowl a 300 game. She was a caregiver for her husband and her sister, Mary, for several years. She loved to go to estate sales in the Dallas area with her childhood friends, Vanita and Martha. She liked walking at North Park mall while also shopping there, and taking Midnight on neighborhood walks. She was a teacher in the Dallas school district for over 40 years after earning her education degree from North Texas College (now university). She will be remembered for her contagious laughter. Everyone who knew her cherished hearing that laugh even after she stopped talking. Above all she loved God and made sure her children went to Sunday school and church every Sunday. She attended the White Rock Church of Christ. She is survived by her son, Danny (Peggy) Gerlach of Mesquite, and her daughter Kay (Robert) Higgins of Rowlett, grandchildren Amanda (Travis) Pollard of Pflugerville, Aaron Gerlach of Dallas, Darren Higgins of Rowlett, Bryan Gerlach (Amber) of Rockwall, and Mindy Higgins of Kerrville. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, Judah Pollard, Caroline Pollard, Jamie Gerlach and Theo Gerlach. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish her memory are the workers at Mercer Terrace in Rowlett, where she resided for the last six years of her life, and the workers from Traditions Hospice who took care of her for the last two years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Violet Callaway, her husband Robert “Bob”, her brothers Jack Callaway and Ben Callaway, and her sisters, Mary Dugger and Nell Maxey. Services for Ann will be held on Friday, June 27th in the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation will be from 1 - 2 p.m. with the service to follow at 2 p.m
