Ann Flores Minnis' Obituary
Minnis, Ann Flores passed away January 7, 2012, in Dallas. Ann, the daughter of the late Fidencio Vallareal Flores and Maria Santiago Castillo of Uvalde, Texas, was born May 15, 1943, in Uvalde. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and by her loving husband of forty-four years, Billy E. Minnis. She graduated from Uvalde High School an earned a B.S in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Ann, a true pioneer and model for women in the workforce, worked for Texas Instruments for over 40 years. She began as a production operator on the night shift and after many different assignments in the T. I. organization; she concluded her career as Director and Grants Administrator of the Texas Instruments Foundation. Ann was the first female Trustee elected to the T. I. Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Throughout her life, Ann was an advocate and inspiration to people across age, economic and ethnic lines. She was especially devoted to children with learning differences, those in need, and individuals in the Hispanic culture. She served on many community boards, often as president, including: Head Start of Greater Dallas; Girls, Inc.; Mi Escuelita Preschool; Citizens Development Center; Workforce Solutions – Dallas County; The University of Texas, Arlington, Graduate School of Social Work; Best Education Foundation; the Texas Instruments Foundation; and the Fairhill School. In addition, she was a member of the Hispanic 100, The Dallas Summit, Leadership Texas, and Leadership America. Ann is survived by her son, Lawrence Minnis; her granddaughter, Lauren, and her mother, Rosalinda; her sisters Tare Mirelez and husband Mike of Cedar Park, Texas; Sara Flores of Louth, England; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, January 12, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas. Following a private burial, a service of the Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 13, 11:00 AM at the Saturn Road Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her honor to the Fairhill School, 16150 Preston Road, Dallas TX 75248.
