Annie Laura Ramsey's Obituary
Annie Laura Ramsey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on September 17, 1920 and went home to be with her Lord on September 2, 2020 -- just 15 days shy of her 100th birthday.
Born in El Dorado, Arkansas to Charles and Alice Gaylor, Annie Laura graduated from El Dorado High School and attended El Dorado Junior College. While working at the National Bank of Commerce, she met Charles Ramsey and they were married in 1940. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before his death in November 2001. Living in many different places over the years, including Riverside, California; Oakridge, Tennessee; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Lubbock, Texas, Annie Laura and Charles settled in Dallas in 1960, where they raised their two daughters, Jeanne and Barbara.
Annie Laura was a beautiful person inside and out. Gentle and kind, she possessed great inner strength and a deep faith in God. Annie Laura was loving, generous, patient, selfless, and a lot of fun. A fabulous cook (family favorites include her fried chicken and chocolate pie), she served others through her gifts for homemaking and hospitality. Bridge playing was a passion of Annie Laura’s and she was not only an excellent player, but also a sought-after partner, belonging to many different bridge groups over the years. Annie Laura was an avid reader, listening to books on tape after her eyesight failed. Living out her deep faith, she was a longtime member of Park Cities Baptist Church, an active member of the Corkran Sunday School Class, and a devoted volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Clothes Closet of Park Cities Baptist Church.
Annie Laura Ramsey is survived by her two daughters, Jeanne Hedreen and husband, David of Bandera, Texas, and Barbara Burke and husband, E.J., of Dallas, Texas; her two granddaughters, Kristi Hedreen Null of Austin, Texas, and Ramsey Burke Patton of Dallas, Texas; and her three great-grandchildren, Kya and Ian Null of Austin, Texas, and Noah Patton of Dallas, Texas; and several dear nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be private with a memorial service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Park Cities Baptist Church, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75225.
