Arthur Edward "Ed" Sobey, Jr.'s Obituary
Arthur Edward “Ed” Sobey, 93, of Richardson, went to be with the Lord Sunday, December 3, 2017. He was born in Shawnee, Kansas on May 28, 1924, the eldest son of Elizabeth and Arthur Sobey.He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Tommie Nell. He is survived by their four children: Dr. Terry Sobey of Dallas; Karen Tipton and husband John of Sugar Land, Texas; Janet Weisse and husband Colonel Dr. Martin Weisse of West Virginia; and Mark Sobey of Garland Texas; 13 grandchildren: Chris, Alex and Rebecca Sobey; Philip and Casandra Tipton; Zachary, Michelle (Trueheart), Catherine, Angela, and Natalie Weisse; and Alyssa, Kyle and Madison Sobey; and eight great-grandchildren.Ed grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He served in Patton’s 3rd Army in WWII, and attended Texas Lutheran College where he met his lovely wife. He earned a PhD in Physics from the University of Texas and worked in the defense industry.He was active in church and the Boy Scouts. He and Tommie enjoyed square dancing, bridge, traveling, and participating in the Hideaway community. Ed enjoyed grilling and smoking meats for family get-togethers and golfing with family and friends.There will be visitation at Restland Funeral home from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, December 10. Interment will be at 10 am at Restland Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Noon on Monday, December 11, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Richardson.The family has designated either Lutheran World Relief or the Wounded Warrior Project for memorial contributions in Ed’s memory.
