Bennie Ray Morgan's Obituary
Age 79, died Jan. 16 in Dallas. Born Dec. 22, 1928, Bennie was a life-long resident of the Dallas area. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank L. Morgan and Evelyn Banno, and by his brother Frank ‘Buster’ Morgan. A star high school athlete at Forest Avenue High School, where he was a four-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball, Bennie went on to play semi-professional baseball in Odessa before being called home to care for his ailing father. He served in the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged in 1950. Bennie was a board member of the Forest Avenue High School Alumni Association. He retired in 1993 from Dallas Power & Light Co. after 42 years of loyal service. Upon retirement, Bennie took up golf and enjoyed playing the game with his buddies. Bennie is survived by his wife Coynella Morgan; daughter Vickie Morgan Cook; daughter Debra Morgan Ross and her husband Keith Ross; granddaughters Lauren Amanda Cook and Natalie Morgan Ross; grandson Ryan Keith Ross; little buddy Beau; sister-in-law Betty Lou Morgan; sister Betty Warren; and a host of other family members and friends. Bennie approached the end like he lived his life – as a fierce competitor. More than one person has said, ‘When God made Bennie, he threw away the mold.’ He will be missed. Burial will follow at Restland. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Texas Oncology Foundation, Physicians’ Cancer Research Fund, 12221 Merit Drive, Suite 500, Dallas, TX 75251, or to a charity of choice.
