Bert Wright Huls' Obituary
Born March 1, 1926 in Hanna, Oklahoma (McIntosh County). Son of Leslie G. and Georgia (Wright ) Huls, passed away December 5, 2010 of lymphoma and leukemia. He had fought several types of cancer during the last twenty-five years of his life. Bert graduated from Perkins, Oklahoma High School in 1943. Following his freshman year at the University of Oklahoma, he was selected by the U. S. Navy to attend the University of Southern California. He graduated from there in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Science and Tactics. He later pursued graduate business studies at the University of Washington and Cornell University. Bert served in the Pacific naval theatre during World War II as an officer on the USS Turner DD-834. He later served as Executive Officer on the USS Spangler DE-696 during the Korean War. Bert’s business career was spent with Exxon and affiliates. He held management positions in the exploration and marketing departments, retiring from Exxon-Mobil Corporation in 1983. Bert was a member of the Methodist Church. He held the 32nd degree in the Masonic Lodge and was a member of the El Paso Lodge ( Colorado Springs) and the Dallas Consistory. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity and the Dallas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Huls) Johnson of Indianapolis and Margaret Ann Huls of Dallas, his son-in-law Bruce Alan Johnson of Vermont, and grandchildren Adam W. Johnson of Indianapolis and Marielle Johnson of Maine. His beloved wife, Monica (Benedict) Huls, to whom he was married for 56 years, preceded him in death in 2002. Services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010 in Restland’s Abbey Chapel.
