Betty "Scotty" Martin's Obituary
Scotty Martin was born in Poteet, Texas to Stella Ann (Zigmond) Scott and Lewis Carlos Scott on their family farm outside of Poteet on Thursday, July 16, 1936.
Scotty was the first in her family to go to college, graduating from Southwest Texas Teachers College in 1958. From 1958 to 1982, Scotty taught in Mesquite, Texas, McClair High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Poteet, Texas, and finally in Forney, Texas. She was revered everywhere she taught, even being nominated for Teacher of Year at McClain High School. Although Scotty wasn’t formally trained in drama, she led the One Act Plays, producing “A Rebel With A Cause "and “Lil Abner”!
From 1982 on, Scotty had a very successful career in the real estate business, working for Paula Stringer and Meryl Lynch, where she was the head of their relocation department. She closed her career by working for the Dallas Living Center as the Executive Director.
While working as a teacher in Mesquite, Scotty met her soul-mate and the love of her life, Glenn Martin. Different roommates of Glen n’s tried over the years to set him up with Scotty until it finally stuck in 1959! They lived an exciting life of travel, good fortune and many, many good friends along the way. Glenn wanted friends to know that Scotty took good care of him throughout their 62 years of marriage.
Scotty and Glenn were very close to the Scott family, spending most holidays with Scotty’s brother and sisters. She is survived by her loving husband, Glenn, her sisters Loretta and Joyce who love her dearly, her nieces that thought of her as their second mom: Linda, Peggy, Teri, Melissa, Sheryl, Ronda, and DeeAnn and nephews, Burt, Scott and Russell Pape. Scotty was also loved by many great nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Frances Martin. Scotty was preceded in death by her father and mother, brother Charles and her sister Patsy. Also preceded in death by Barney and his wife Erneal Martin.
