Betty Genia Perkins' Obituary
PERKINS, BETTY GENIA, a resident of Heath, TX for 30 yrs until Alzheimer’s disease moved her to assisted living in Irving, TX. A stroke put her in memory care the last 3 months of her life. She died March 13, 2014 in the loving care of her Hospice Team. Born to Cammie Helen and Grover Cleveland Wright in Fulton, KY on August 23, 1928. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) Perkins; son, Dickie; and grandson, Richard Barker. Betty left rural Kentucky and moved to Dallas in 1954 with her two daughters. She continued her career as a telephone operator. In 1955 she was introduced to Captain Perkins at the Officers Club Carswell Air Force Base at a Halloween Party. They danced the night away and were married in 1956. She is survived by sisters, Lucille Simpson of KY, June Klein of GA; and brother, Billy, TN. She also leaves daughters, Terrye Ritchie (Terry), Delene St. John (Tom); grandkids, Carrie Settles (Mark), Jennifer Burch (Scott); great- grandkids, Zackery, Benjamin and Cameron. She was Grandma Betty to Lakey Roberts (Brett); Skyy and Ashlee. A woman of perseverance and dedication. She cared for her handicap son until his death and then returned to school graduating from college with a BS degree at the age of 62. Her career life was diverse; wedding planner, activity director at Presbyterian Village, Assistant Volunteer Director at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, Sales Rep for Rockwall Chronicle. Betty was active in her HOA at Antiqua Bay in Heath, avid gardener, and delivered Meals on Wheels in her community. Private Graveside Service at 10:30 am; Garden of Love, Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75243. A celebration of her life will be conducted in a Memorial Service on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 2:30 pm at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 9999 Ferguson Rd. Dallas TX 75228.
