Campbell Wallace Newman Jr.'s Obituary
Newman, Campbell Campbell Newman, born October 28, 1928 passed away peacefully at home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 23, 2011. Born in Dallas and raised in Highland Park, he graduated from Highland Park High School where he was active in football and baseball. While attending SMU, he played on the varsity football team and received three degrees. He was a member of the SMU Mustang Club and attended many games. After graduating with a Master’s Degree in Business, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany and was honored as the most outstanding cadet in the Military Police School of 840 men. His career was in commercial real estate development. He was associated with the Trammel Crow Co., developing Park Central and Medical City in Dallas. He was an active member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and was on the Administrative Board and Finance Committee and served as President of the Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday School class. He felt so fortunate to have the friends from Sunday school who expressed their concern and love during his illness. He was a charter member of Bent Tree Country Club where he enjoyed golf and tennis. He and Jan, his wife of 42 years, enjoyed traveling to many states and countries. In his travels, he wanted to play the famous gold course in the states. Every vacation the golf clubs were the first thing packed. Among their travels was walking the Via Dolorosa on Good Friday in Jerusalem and later attending Easter services there. They also attended the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, and visited the Crystal Cathedral in California. Campbell devoted his life to God, family, and America. He knew the value of freedom through being with his father, a Colonel in the Army, who had fought in two wars. He is survived by wife, Janice Lloyd Newman; daughter, Cynthia Newman; nephews, Robert Hurst, Bill Skeeters, and Tom Skeeters. Campbell was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Price Newman; his father, Campbell Newman; and sister, Patricia Hurst. A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on March 25, 2011 at Highland Park United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to H.P.U.M.C, Wesleyan Fellowship Class, or to Camp Grady Spruce.
