Caridad Hernandez's Obituary
Caridad Casas Hernandez passed away on July 28, 2025 in Dallas surrounded by family who deeply miss her.
She was born on May 7, 1939 in Dumaguete City , Philippines and was the only child of Mamerto Casas and Teopista Banquerigo.
She finished High School at Davao City HS in 1959, then took a 2-year Secretarial program at Davao City Vocational School.
In 1958, she was married to Ruben Saguil, Sr. In the 1960s, they travelled across the Philippines working for the GSIS- the Phil. Govt System Insurance Service and had 5 kids along the way.
Life was good but challenging and their marriage would have problems.
In 1970, she made the painful and difficult decision to move to America leaving her young children behind. It was the bravest act of her life that would shape her life and the lives of everyone she was related to.
She would stay with a friend for a while. Eventually she would find work and move to New York City. Without any family or relatives around, she singularly persevered and sacrificed to provide financial support, education and shelter for her children.
She started her career as a clerk at Burns Security Systems in New York where she met Jose A Hernandez who worked as security guard at her building. They later married and had a child, Tracy Jennifer.
She also worked at Sterling Drugs, Cutler Data Services, Bear Stearns, Reuters and Instinet in their computer data centers in New York.
On 9/11, 2001, she was working at the World Trade Center when the terrorists attacked. She managed to walk down the stairs before their tower collapsed. Shortly after that, she decided to retire.
During her retirement, she helped in raising her grandkids in Jersey City, managed a small Filipino restaurant and be the problem solver for everyone. She was resourceful , knew what to do and who to call in cases of emergencies. She enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers and taking care of her cats and dogs who loved her so much. She was soft spoken and everyone she met enjoyed her company.
In 2004, she would have all her children join her in America.
Unfortunately, she also had to deal with health problems. She had quadruple heart bypass operation in 2005. She also had kidney disease and recurring gout.
She is survived by her 6 children (3 in-laws) and 8 grandkids:
Maria Linda Saguil; Michael Anthony Deluco and Aracelli Danielle Saguil - Jersey City, NJ.
