Carl Lenburgh Smith Sr.'s Obituary
SMITH, SR., CARL LENBURGH loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, left this world on October 15, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born August 20, 1929, the 3rd of 7 children, to Charlie and Gennie V. Smith in Waskom, TX. On September 5, 1948 he married his high school sweetheart, Imogene Willis. They raised 3 fine sons. He is affectionately known as Papa Len to his 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Carl worked at Flemming Paper Mill for 18 years, then worked at Oil Well Supply until he retired. He is loved and respected by friends and coworkers. He encouraged others to be secure and successful by saving and planning for the futrue. He enjoyed spending time out doors; in his garden, the yard and fishing at the lake. Carl loved the Lord, was a faithful member of the Hamilton Park United Methodist Church where he served as a Steward and part of the Methodist Mens Group. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Gennie V. Smith; brother, Maurice Smith and Hermon Smith. He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 62 years, Imogene; sons, Carl L. Smith Jr., Thomas Lee (Shirlyn) and Victor Smith; grandchildren, Kelvin, Byron, Carla, Angela, Kheilia, Shannon, Nathan, Callie, Cedric, Cardell, Shandra and Tiffany; great grandchildren, Byron Jr., Dearrick, Desiree, Jamieson, Kyra, Katy, Deonta, Andrew, Lauryn, Kory, Destinee, Kayla, Jermey, Jazmine, Sierra, Caleb, Sydney and Chloe; sisters, Gloria Dillwart and Cozeen Harbert; brother, Charles (Pearlene) Smith, Willie Fred (Birdie) Smith and Oliver Wendel Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00PM, Wednesday at Restland Funeral Home.
