Charles Shackelford's Obituary
SHACKELFORD, C.H. “SHACK” Born April 10th, 1920, passed away after a long and wonderful life on February 25, 2007. Shack was born in Brownwood, TX but grew up in Dallas where he graduated from Adamson High School and attended Rice Institute in Houston. While at Adamson, he won the Wozencraft Award two consecutive years for the most outstanding ROTC Cadet in Dallas. In 1940, he married Frances Darrell and they were married until her death in 2004. Shack served as a 1st Lt. in the 5th Air Force, 8th Combat Cargo Group in WWII. In the 1940’s, Mr. Shackelford began his career as a cemeterian with Restland of Dallas. He sold property, then became Sales Director, Vice President, and later President of the company. Shack served as President of the Texas Cemetery Association, 1955-1956, and American Cemetery Association, 1980-1981. He was also President of the Dallas Sales Executive Club, 1959-1960 and SW Sales Executive Council 1960-1961. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the American Cemetery Association in 1990. He also served as President of Northwood Club. Shack was a life member of the Salesmanship Club and worked in the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament as long as he was able. His association with this group of outstanding men was one he cherished. Shack loved golf and in his lifetime shot 3 holes in one. They included #5 at Northwood, one at Spyglass in Carmel, CA, and one at the Inn of Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, NM. Mr. Shackelford is survived by his son, Rob Shackelford; daughter, Patti Haney and husband Charles; granddaughter, Kimberly Jacobs and husband Brad; and his great grandsons, Palmer Alexander Jacobs and Parker Hamilton Jacobs. The family wishes to express love and gratitude to his extraordinary caregiver, Maggie. Shack will be buried next to Fran at Restland. Family will receive friends 6-8 Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, March 1st, 2007 at Restland Memorial Chapel with Dr. Stan Copeland officiating. Interment at Restland Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the Salesmanship Club of Dallas 400 S Zang Blvd, Dallas, 75208.
