Charles Miller Smith, Jr.'s Obituary
Charles Miller Smith, Jr. died on December 31, 2017 at the age of 92. He was born on December 4, 1925 in St. Petersburg, Florida, the son of the late Charles Miller and Annie Stein Ware Smith. He is survived by his sister, Mary Anne Lockwood of Fort Smith, Arkansas; his wife Jacquelyne (Jackie) H. Smith; three children and their spouses: Brad and Mary Smith, Steve and Carolyn Smith, and Terri and Jim Porter; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.Charles was formerly married to the late Barbara Loydelle (Delle) Stevenson from 1946 to 1978.Charles grew up in rural eastern Arkansas and attended one year at Arkansas A&M before enrolling at Rice University in Houston, Texas and joining the Naval Reserve during World War II. He was quarterback of the Rice Owls football team in 1945. He graduated in February 1946 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. After release from the Navy, he briefly worked for GE in Schenectady, New York before returning to Texas and working his way up to Vice President/General Manager of Shovel Supply Company, a manufacturer of highway construction equipment in Dallas.Charles was a proud member of the Order of Freemasons (32°), and was a Master Mason for more than 68 years.Visitation will be on Friday, January 5th from 6-8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 6th at 2 p.m at Cook-Walden Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas.
