Chloris Carlene "Granny" Halstead's Obituary
Chloris Carlene "Granny" Halstead passed away on December 21, 2023. Granny was born October 21, 1932, in Couchwood, LA Webster Parish to Bertha Mason and Brad Cheatham. She grew up in Springhill, LA but lived her last fifty years in Irving. TX.
Carlene was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Halstead, her mother, father, her son Ronnie Craig, and siblings Howard Cheatham, Charles Ray Cheatham, Fay Warlick and Sue Grazioso. She is survived by her son Johnny Craig of Springhill. LA and daughter-in-law Judy Craig of Irving, TX. She leaves behind five grandchildren: Shannon Morgan (Bud); Jacob Craig (Becky), Colby Craig (Danielle), John Craig (Heather), Andrea Gordon (Garhett) as well as twelve great grandchildren, four nieces, and seven nephews.
Carlene was the most generous and loving person and if she thought someone had a need, she would be the first to do whatever she could to help even giving the shirt off of her back. After her husband passed away in 1999, she would often take care of her sisters and friends by chauffeuring them to appointments, errands, or just lunch. Carlene was also a lover of all animals and was known to feed all the neighborhood strays, including raccoons, squirrels, etc. If you saw her out and about in town, she was sure to have her little dog riding with her. She will be best remembered by those who love her as the #1 peanut butter cake baker as it was always the first request for birthdays and holidays.
A graveside service will be held on December 26, 2023, at 2:00pm at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
