Clyde Barrett Sutherland's Obituary
Barrett Sutherland, 74, died Sunday August 28, 2022 at his home in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas, where he had lived for many years.
Barrett is survived by: his wife, Iran; cousins Janis Susan May of Dallas and Leslie (Steve) Coker of Van Alstyne; his many friends in the Baha’i community and long-time clients. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Sutherland and Blanche Barrett, and by his sister, Gay Sutherland.
He married Iran (Khorsandian) Sutherland, in 1979 and together they established a hair salon which is still serving clients.
Barrett had many interests. He achieved a black belt in karate, and taught karate to youth and adults. He liked riding his bike at White Rock Lake, and loved all kinds of music. But above all else he loved studying the writings of the Baha’i Faith which he joyously embraced in 1972. Barrett had left school in the 8th grade without having become a proficient reader but his yearning to study Baha'i Scripture inspired him to teach himself how to read at an elevated level. His deep mystical insights made him a gifted teacher of the Faith.
Barrett had a very gentle spirit, was extremely generous with his time and finances, was loved by many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held in the Baha'i Garden at Restland Memorial Park on Tuesday, September 6th, 2022 at 10:00AM.
