Curtis Luther Wade Jr.'s Obituary
Curtis Luther, Wade, Jr. age 84, of Denton, Texas passed away peacefully July 21, 2011 at Denton Good Samaritan Village. He was born on August 7, 1926 in Baytown, Texas to his parents, Curtis L. Wade, Sr. and Stella Cumi Jones. Curtis was the oldest of three brothers. He married Thelma Maxine Stubblefield in New London, Texas on August 29, 1949. They had two daughters. He attended Tyler Commercial College and graduated in 1946 with an associate’s degree in electronics, then attended Youngstown Air Conditioning and Refrigeration School, Youngstown, Ohio, receiving an air conditioning engineer certification. He was a longtime resident of Richardson, Texas for 34 years employed by American Airlines as a facility maintenance mechanic for 24 years. He and Maxine moved to Denton, Texas in 1998. Curtis was a charter member of Waterview Missionary Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed volunteering at his church, watching all sports, and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Curtis will be remembered by his loving wife and daughters: Sheryl Jean Lawson and husband Don of Corpus Christi, Texas and Rebecca Anne Hughes of Denton, Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jennifer Lee Steinkamp of Andover, Kansas; Robert Wade Seymour of Wichita, Kansas; Gus Thornton Hughes of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Nelan Rebecca Hughes of Tigerville, South Carolina; Risa Jeanne Lawson of Houston, Texas; Eric Wayne Lawson of LaVerne, California; Kristi Dee Lawson of Azusa, California, eleven great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. Curtis was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Millard Luther Wade and Billy Eugene Wade, and son-in-law Carter Caldwell Hughes. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation Sunday, July 24th, 5-7 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. A celebration of Curtis’ life will be Monday, July 25th, 10 a.m., Memorial Chapel, Restland. There will be no graveside service. Pallbearers are Wade Seymour, Gus Hughes, Don Lawson, Paul Benge, Michael Hammond, and Mark Hammond. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Burks, Jim Scroggins, Charles Benge, Sheldon Benge, Gerald Oliver, and Charles Glenn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Denton Good Samaritan Village Staff Scholarship Fund, 2500 Hinkle Dr., Denton, TX 76201.
