David Woodfin Boone's Obituary
David Woodfin Boone, age 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 15, 2016, in Dallas. David was born October 25, 1930 in Asheville, NC to the late Riley Ransom Boone and Virginia Lynn. Following graduation from the Crossnore School, David joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Foss, DE 59, with a rate of GM3. He served in the Korean War from 1950-1951. He received the Good Conduct medal, the Korean Service Ribbon with one star, and the United Nations Service Medal. He received his undergraduate degree from Midwestern University and his graduate and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas in Austin. He worked in the semiconductor group at Texas Instruments for over 35 years and was a Freemason and longtime member of Wilshire Baptist Church. He loved his perfectly manicured lawn and a strong Scotch and water. David immensely enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters whom he cherished. David was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Riley Boone. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda (Phillips) Boone of Dallas; son, Mike Boone of Ukiah, CA; daughter, Gail Bayne (Trey) of Richardson, TX; son, Philip Boone of Topanga, CA; granddaughters, Peri and Nora Bayne of Richardson, TX; sisters, Jane Johnson of Bend, OR, Lynn Culberson of Asheville, NC; Frances Smith of Asheville, NC; brother, Bruce Emory of Center, TX; sister, Sharon Biddix of Weaverville, NC; sister Gwen Weeke of Greenville, SC. The service for David Boone will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service starting at 9:00 AM.
