Delbert Barnett Duncan's Obituary
Delbert Duncan, retired Minyard executive, passed away at the age of 66, at Autumn Leaves of Grapevine, on February 29, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born April 16th, 1941 in Dallas, Texas to the late Mattie L. and Thomas H. Duncan, Sr., he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was predeceased by his brother, Tom Duncan, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Judy Duncan, his daughters, Melissa Morganthaler and husband Andy, Amy Collins and husband Scott, his three precious grandchildren, Ryan, Nicole, and Ethan, his two sisters, Virginia James and Doris Hicks, his sister-in-law Ruth Duncan, and many nieces and nephews. He graduated in 1959 from Crozier Tech high school in Dallas, where he was a member of the ROTC. He was also a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington. Delbert started his career with Minyard Food Stores at the age of 15 and quickly worked his way up to Store Manager, District Manager, Director of Real Estate, Director of Personnel, and Sr. Vice President of Retail Operations. He retired as Senior Vice President of Administration after over 41 years of loyal and dedicated service. He loved to fish, travel, cruise with his wife and her parents (Bob and Dot Taylor), and most importantly, spend time with family. He was a member of MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church, Irving. He enjoyed doing volunteer work with Meals on Wheels and Sharing Life Community Outreach Center. Delbert was an active member of the Stark Club at The Center for Brain Health and enjoyed spending time with friends at the Early Onset Alzheimer’s group, as well as the Brain Health Caf’. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all of the staff and caregivers at Autumn Leaves of Grapevine for their exceptional loving care these past two years, and to Bishop Hospice for their support and care. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Chapel at Restland Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Delbert’s memory to Center for Brain Health UT Dallas, 2200 W. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75235.
