With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Dennis Thomas Garwitz Sr., who departed this world on August 28, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born on January 23, 1942, Dennis lived a life marked by integrity, compassion, and quiet strength. Known by all who met him as a man of unwavering honesty, he carried a deep love for people and animals alike. His kindness was not performative—it was instinctive. Whether lending a hand to a neighbor or rescuing a stray, Dennis gave of himself freely and without hesitation.
A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Dennis served his country with honor and humility. His experiences shaped his enduring empathy and his commitment to caring for others, values that remained central throughout his life. Dennis was also a proud and loyal employee of General Motors for 30 years.
Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Addie and T.A. Garwitz, and his brother, Bud Garwitz.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 63 years, Ruby, whose love and partnership were the foundation of his life. He also leaves behind his son, Dennis Thomas Garwitz Jr., and daughter-in-law, Kristine, as well as his sister-in-law, Mary Pike.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Thomas Garwitz (Brianna), Tanner Garwitz, and Tatum Hassell (John), and his great-grandchildren: Lyla, Finley, Adeline, and Eleanor—each a reflection of the warmth and wisdom he passed down.
Dennis’s life was a testament to quiet heroism, gentle strength, and enduring love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
