Donald McNees' Obituary
A Texan, born August 1925 in Dallas, Texas, he was educated in the public schools in Dallas County, graduating from high school in January, 1943. He volunteered for service in the United States Navy by enlistment. He entered in a college training program and advanced in grade from Apprentice Seaman to Lieutenant, J.G. at the time of honorable discharge at the conclusion of the war. He served in the South Pacific on assignment. Donald attended the University of Texas, and worked in the Texas State Senate, part time. He also attended Mercer University, in Macon Ga., University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, NC., and Graduate School of Business Administration, Harvard in Cambridge, MA. He received a L.L.B from University Law School, in Dallas, TX, and admitted to practice law in the state of Texas in 1949, his practice has privileged a wide association with most attorneys of Dallas County. His associations have been with the Dallas bar Association, American Bar Association, State Bar Association, Richardson Bar Association, past president 1961-62, Chairman Lawday Activities 1962-64. He was also admitted to practice in the Federal Court Northern District of Texas, Federal Courts Eastern District of Texas. His experience has included the whole range of law, counseling and trial practice. He has handled cases throughout Texas, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He has been counsel for a bank, handled all phases of insurance matters, tax, corporate, domestic relations and criminal law. More simply stated, he has been tempered and sharpened upon the blade of jurisprudence and justice. He believed in nothing less than full measure of time and effort for the job at hand. His wife, Mary is active in affairs or the home, school, children’s work, community projects of PTA and Scouting. All are members for the Methodist Church. They have two children born to them, Brian McNees and Donna Palmer. 4 granchildren, Clare and Duncan Palmer, Maura and Connor McNees. His parents were both born and reared of large families in Texas, His father, James L. McNees Sr. practiced law in Dallas from 1911-1953 (decesased). He was a member of social and civic groups, Downtown Lions Club, Kilties; his fraternities are Delta Tau Delta, and Phi Alpha Delta; he was a hobbyist and versed in art and cartooning. Humble to the point of slight embarrassment to speak of himself, but eager to be open and frank for judgment. Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 17, 2011 at Restland Wildwood Chapel with interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park.
