Donald Hugh Williams' Obituary
D. Hugh Williams, 78, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the North Mississippi Medical center in Tupelo. Williams, a native of Dallas, moved with his wife, Jeannette, to Mississippi in 2005 to be close to his daughter and grandchildren. He was a graduate of Baylor University, class of 1952 and a member of the Chamber. He graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking and served as a faculty member for that organization. He joined First National Bank in Dallas in 1965 and was elected corporate officer and director of Human Resources at Interfirst Corp. in 1981, retiring from that position in 1986. He completed his career as Director of Human Resources for the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, retiring from that position in 1989. He was chairman of the Metropolitan Division for the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. He was an advisory director for the School of Management and Administration at the University of Texas at Dallas and served in the same capacity for Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business. He was a past director of the Executive Committee of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, a past president and 6 year board member of Camp Fire Girls of Metropolitan Dallas, a senior director and former president of the Dallas Baylor Club and a former director and officer of the Baylor Alumni Association. Williams served from 1977 to 1985 on the board of the Baptist Standard Publishing Company. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was a long time member and former chairman of deacons at Wilshire Baptist Church. He later joined Park Cities Baptist Church where he also served as chairman of deacons and as an adult Sunday school director. After moving to Mississippi, he joined Calvary Baptist Church of Tupelo. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father, Tim and Grace Williams, his brother, Cory Williams and his nephew, Ronald Williams. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeannette Williams, his daughter and son-in-law, Janna and Denvil Crowe and their children, Camie, Caitlin and Dee. Services are scheduled for 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas with visitation following the service. Arrangements are through Restland Funeral Home (972-238-7111) Hugh was a kind, caring and compassionate man who always thought of others before himself. He will be greatly missed but we rejoice in his homecoming with the Lord and Savior that he served and loved. The family suggests that memorials be made to Buckner Children’s Home or Gideons International.
