Donna Mae Morrissey's Obituary
Our Mom
It all started in Decatur Michigan back in 1924,
When 'Tuppy' gave birth to a beautiful daughter she would always adore.
Mom had a brother named Bruce and a sister named Ernie,
But her dad thought she would be a boy so he nicknamed her Johnnie!
Life was not easy back then, but Mom persevered,
Taking on life's challenges, there was nothing she feared.
Off to nursing school, and then life as a stewardess,
What life would bring next, she could only guess.
She met the man of her dreams while a stewardess in New Jersey,
Little did she know this would be the start of her forever family.
God blessed them with three daughters and a son,
But raising four kids was a challenge, second to none.
Through the years life was an adventure and at times it got tough,
But you loved us and took great care of us, for which we can't thank you enough.
My fondest memories are going to see Grandma and Grandpa in Dowagiac,
Riding the train, going fishing, cherry cokes at Caruso's, the times were magic.
We love you very much, and you are a blessing to us all,
And when He whispered your name, you listened to his call.
You are a precious child of the Most High God,
He saw you have faith and trust in him, and he gave you his loving nod.
But now the ticking of the clock breaks the silence in the quiet room,
And she thought to herself "This isn't my good bye, it's my 'I'll see you soon' ".
So God took her hand, lifted her up on angel's wings and showed her to heaven's way,
Where she was welcomed with loving arms on her resurrection day.
And now, Mom, as we honor the way you lived your life,
We are in awe of your roles as a Mom, a grandma, a friend, a dog mom, and a wife.
And because you spread love and joy wherever you went,
God was proud to tell you, "Well done my good and faithful servant".
Our Mom was an amazing woman. She had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest, and loved to share it with whomever she came in contact with. She had an infectious smile that brightened everyone's day.
She was born in Decatur, MI, and had careers as a stewardess for American Airlines, and as a Registered Nurse. Mom met her husband Dick in New Jersey; they started their family in 1948 and had three daughters, Susan, Sara, and Laura, and a son named Rick. Mom was active in her community; she was a member of the Kiwi Club (retired American Airlines stewardesses), where she served as President, and the Lakewood Golf Club Women's League, where she also served as President. She was a Welcome Ambassador at DFW for the Kiwi Club, and at Windsor Senior Living for new residents. She had a love for driving Mustangs as she owned many of them; red, yellow, and even a black convertible! And let us not forget the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys; Mom was an avid fan of both, and held Cowboys season tickets for many years!
Mom loved to travel; she enjoyed trips with her daughters Sara and Laura, to Canton to shop, and to Choctaw. She also spent time with Susan and her family with trips to Cozumel, and her son Rick when he worked at the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. Mom also had a passion for our four-legged friends. She was a 'dog mom' to many sweet Pomeranians; she even made doggie blankets for Operation Kindness.
Mom gave her life to the Lord in 2004, when she was 80! She attended BSF classes that Susan taught for many years. She attended The Branch Church, where she was loved by the staff and members. The amazing Branch staff even ministered to her up until her last day on earth.
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the staff at Windsor Senior Living. where Mom lived the last 4 years. A more caring and compassionate staff you will not find. We have so much respect for them, the job they do, and how they treat their residents.
But Mom's greatest achievement was the family God helped her create. She was blessed with four children, six grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Mimi (as she was affectionately named) had a passion for her family, and loved spending time with them.
And now, Mom has been welcomed with loving arms into Heaven. I know the Lord will have many duties for her. She will be missed by all who knew her. I hope we can all live our lives in the manner in which she did.
Mom, we love you so much, and will miss you everyday.
The Graveside will take place at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas, Texas on Thursday March 18, 2021 at 1 PM in Veteran’s IV section
In Memoriam donations can be made to Mom's favorite organizations: The Branch Church in Farmer's Branch, and Operation Kindness in Carrolton.
