Dorothy Irene Holt's Obituary
Dorothy’s heart finally stopped working on January 10, 2009 at Walnut Place. From the time she was a teenager in the 1930’s Dorothy worked continuously until she retired. She and her husband Jack T. Holt, whom she married in 1942, both worked at Chance Vought during World War II from 1942 to 1948. Dorothy worked at Southwestern Bell until 1962, when she opened Dorothy Holt’s Antiques on McKinney Avenue. Dorothy was truly a workaholic because she was a child of the Depression, and after she sold her business in 1980, she continued in the field by handling estate sales and operating her famous garage sales. Friends remember her special cream cheese spread that she gave to them every Christmas. We remember how much she loved ultra suede, how she always put talcum powder in her shoes, and the many hair pins required for her floor length hair. She was a super saleslady who was loyal and encouraging to people starting out in the antique business. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Skillman Avenue Church of Christ. Born July 10, 1924 to Henry and Stella Burch Gracy, Dorothy had one sister named Mildred and attended City Park and Forest Avenue High School. She is survived by childhood friend Lillie Beck and remembered by relatives, other friends and loyal customers. Visitation will be from 6-8PM, Monday, January 12, 2009 at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at Restland Memorial Park on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
