Dorothy Lee Minix's Obituary
Dorothy Lee Crocker Minix, age 88, died on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 after battling illness.
She was born on October 13, 1932 to John and Willie Mae Crocker in Seagoville Texas. She was the youngest of five daughters and grew up in a Christian home with parents who taught her about the Lord Jesus Christ and His gift of salvation. At nine years old she accepted Jesus as her savior and continued to grow in Christ at the Assembly of God Church in Seagoville.
Dorothy graduated from Seagoville High School in 1951 and went to work at the phone company in Seagoville. She later began her career as an oil and gas secretary at Lone Star Gas in Dallas where she remained until 1981.
On August 17, 1957 she married Jack H. Minix, Sr. and they began their life together in Dallas, Texas. God blessed them with a son, Jack, Jr. in February 1960 who was the delight of Dorothy’s life. Some of her most cherished memories were supporting Jack, Jr. through his little league baseball adventures. Travelling many times to out of town tournaments across the country, these trips also served as family vacations creating lasting memories for the Minix family. Dorothy continued to serve the Lord at the Church of God in Dallas, Texas, and taught children’s Sunday School classes for many years.
In 1983, Dorothy became a grandmother when her first grandchild, Rachel was born to Jack, Jr. and his wife Dawn. She was made a grandmother three more times with the births of Rachel’s sisters, Chrystal, Mallory, and Katie. Being a grandmother was one of the highlights of her life as she loved to have the girls spend the night at Granny’s house and fix their favorite meals. In 2009, she was thrilled when she became a great-grandmother and eventually had 10 great-grandchildren, the latest one being born 27 days before her death. She was so happy to hold Baby Jessup four days after he was born. Gran Gran, as she was known to her great-grandchildren, loved taking them to Braums for ice cream treats and spending time watching them play.
After her relationship with Christ, family was most important to her and she loved the times when the whole family was together. Throughout her life, Dorothy also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crocheting. She made many crocheted blankets and Christmas ornaments and loved giving them to family and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Willie Mae Crocker, her sisters Lucile Agnes and Velma Ruth (both who died in childhood), and her sister Mattie Maxine Tillery.
She is survived by her son, Jack Jr. and his wife Dawn. Four grandchildren, Rachel Davis and her husband Jeff, Chrystal Findley and her husband Jason, Mallory Garza and her husband Jose, Katie Overton and her husband Taylor. Ten great-grandchildren, Jack, Jo, Ellie, Jed, Claire, Abby, Imogen, Zoe, Lilah, and Jessup. She is also survived by her sister, Kate Everett and her husband David, a niece Paula Campbell and a nephew David Everett, Jr., one great-nephew, Jeremey Everett and two great-nieces, Julie Duran and Hayley Stotler
