Earl Henry Lauten's Obituary
Earl Henry “Hank” Lauten went to be with our Lord on February 2, 2016. Hank was born in Clawson, Michigan on April 7, 1928. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary, and they moved to Dallas. They were married for 42 years; Mary remained his closest friend until her death in 1991. Hank took college courses in electrical engineering, and with this background became a valued employee at LTV, raising in their ranks to positions beyond those with much more education. After he left LTV 25 years ago, he became his own 1-person electrical contracting business, designing lighting for perhaps 100 families. Hank has been close to our Lord for his whole life, attending church regularly, but living his life in a way that he and all that knew him could be proud. He was a long-term member of Northwest Bible Church and was incredibly helpful being a greeter and electrical expert. Hank joins other deceased family members: his parents Grace and Fred, sister Lois, brothers and sisters in law Ted, Joyce , Jim and Jack. He is survived by brother Fred, and sister Ruth, sisters in law Dot and Marcy, his children Michael, Suzan (and husband Tim) and David (and wife Anne); his grandchildren Lauren (and husband Rob), Elizabeth, Kathleen (and husband Luke), and Peter; and his wife, Carolyn. He was caring, smart, funny and gave the best advice in so many different situations. One of the best photos from his granddaughter’s wedding just a few months ago, shows him giving the newlyweds a bit of his best thoughts on moving forward. He broke the mold on agelessness – being more like a 50 year old than an 87-year old; he electrocuted himself at the age of 85 when he was on a ladder fixing an electrical problem at the church. He managed to hang on to the ladder, stepped down and told people who came running that he “thought he had a bit of a problem, but he was OK.” This was Hank, working for our Lord in the church, being self-sufficient, and in an understated way helping those around him, rather than worrying those around him. A graveside service will be held for Hank Lauten on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 9:00 AM at Restland Memorial Park followed by a memorial service at 10:00 AM at Northwest Bible Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwest Bible Church, 8505 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75225.
