Effie Lee Robertson's Obituary
ROBERTSON, EFFIE LEE CARTER (KIRKWOOD) was born on April 29, 1918, in Garland, Texas, and went to sing with the angels in heaven on March 29, 2013. She was a lifelong resident of Dallas, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mary Carter, her sisters, Elsie Carter, Margie Johnson, Estelle Kirkwood, her brother, Wallace Carter, and her husband, Charles “Tiny” Robertson .. Effie loved the Lord, her family, friends, and almost anyone she ever met-and it was easy to love her in return. Effie was the perfect mother, and the love and pride and joy of her life were her 3 children, Betty Allen of Grand Saline, Bill Kirkwood of Rowlett, and Brenda Sue Norton of Wylie, as well as 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by many loving nephews, nieces. These were her rewards for living 94 productive years, giving love to all. Effie always had an angelic smile, a warm hug, and an extra potato to add to the pot to anyone who visited her in her warm home. Her friend Gary Hutson said that he never liked salmon croquettes until Granny made them for him and Laverne. She liked bling and was always dressed as if she were ready to go square dancing. She and her husband Tiny shared the best years of their lives as locksmiths at the Oates Plaza Lock and Key in Dallas. Her happiest days, though, were spent fishing at Lake Lavon and inviting everyone over for a fish fry. She took great pride in being a God-fearing Southern Baptist and a founding member of the Country Church in Mesquite, Texas. Her other great pleasure was supporting the Mesquite Opry, where she was surrounded by the gospel and country music that she loved. Effie’s family appreciates the care and attention given to her by the New Century Hospice during her final days with us. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, April 1, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Restland Abbey Chapel.
