Elizabeth W. Kilpatrick "ESH"'s Obituary
Esh* *”Esh” came from one of her cousins who couldn’t pronounce Elizabeth. Elizabeth Wright Kilpatrick was born on November 15, 1918 Caroline County Virginia (near Richmond) to Maude Simkins Wright and Samuel Burton Wright. She was an only child. As a child Esh contracted pneumonia with a high fever. Her father who was a pharmacist suggested an experimental drug that had never been used. Esh spent two years recovering in a sanitarium in the mountains of Virginia. Esh graduated from Hampton Roads High School. She met her future husband Bob at a high school dance. Bob was two years older and played trombone in his school’s dance band. Bob attended Virginia Tech, then known as VPI. Esh attended Fairfax Hall, which was a two-year finishing school. Like many others WWII had a big impact on Esh and Bob. Bob was in The Corp at VPI, and young officers were in demand. They were married in 1942, and Bob was promptly shipped to Fort Benning in Georgia where they lived on Base. Upon war’s end, Esh and Bob returned to VPI where Bob finished his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Carrier Corp. hired Bob, and they moved to Syracuse, NY. In 1947 Bob was transferred to Dallas. Their first home was an apartment on Travis Avenue. They joined First Methodist Church and were members of the Aldersgate class. It was from this group where they met many of their lifelong friends. Esh and Bob adopted Robbie in 1952 and Bett in 1957. In 1960 Esh and Bob joined Hidden Hill and built their cabin “Wee Brae”. Esh loved to entertain and many oyster roasts were enjoyed at Hidden Hill. Many trips, especially sailing charters were enjoyed over the years. Bob passed away in 1980. Esh sold their home and built her own townhome. She purchased a condo in Naples, FL. She later moved to Naples for several years. In 2001 Esh returned to Dallas and lived at Presbyterian Village North until 2012. Because of failing health Esh transferred to Doctors Hospital near White Rock Lake were she passed away on November 20 four days after her 96th birthday. Esh was a true southern lady who loved her children, husband and life. A kinder, gentler and Christian lady you will never meet. A life well lived! Esh is certainly with Jesus and all her friends making sure they are minding their manners and using the proper utensils. Esh you are loved and will be missed.
