Elizabeth Fisher Smith's Obituary
Elizabeth Fisher Smith, 83, passed away on August 31, 2017, in Plano, Texas. Elizabeth was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on October 16, 1933, to Walter Rex and Ruth Fisher.Elizabeth moved to Dallas, Texas when she was a junior in high school. After graduating from Highland Park High School, she went on to graduate from Texas State College for Women, now known as Texas Women’s University, with a journalism degree. Elizabeth worked at Great American Insurance in downtown Dallas for 11 years, prior to starting her family. After her children had finished pre-school, she worked for many years in the office of Presbyterian Day School.Elizabeth was a very active member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church and was very involved in her United Methodist Women’s group, which she loved. She was a selfless Christian who made sure church members recovering from an illness had meals, drove people without transportation to their doctor’s appointments, stuffed the church bulletins weekly and taught Sunday School; among many other things.Elizabeth was an avid Astros baseball fan. She absolutely loved baseball and endured many years of losing Astros seasons. In 2005, she lived a life-long dream to go to the World Series when the Astros faced the White Sox. The Astros were swept, but she returned from the game saying that she wanted to go back again but wanted the Astros to win the next time. This year could be that year and we know that she will be watching if it is.Elizabeth loved her family and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her mother and father and her husband, Decker, to whom she was married for 55 years. Elizabeth is survived by daughter Jill Webb and husband Randy; daughter Jennifer Kelleher and husband Patrick; granddaughters Abby and Holly Webb; sisters Elaine Travis and Judy Wallace; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Murray.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Restland Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Graveside service to celebrate Elizabeth’s life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 11:30 AM in the Mission Garden at Restland Memorial Park.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
