Elizabeth Zwaska's Obituary
Zwaska, Elizabeth Evans, 98 years old, of Dallas, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at her home in Dallas, Texas.She is survived by her family and friends.Visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will follow from 4:00 pm 6:00 pm at Mariano’s Hacienda Dallas located at 6300 Skillman St, Dallas, TX 75231.On Monday, October 9, 2017, a memorial service will be held at Restland Funeral Home in the Wildwood Chapel beginning at 10:00am. Burial will follow the service.Elizabeth was born in Cameron, Texas to her parents, James Asa Evans and Mary Elizabeth Cobb on June 2, 1919. Elizabeth was the third-born of five children in her family. She grew up on a cotton farm at Chapman Ranch. Elizabeth attend San Marcos State Teacher’s College where she earned degrees in Art and Home Economics. During World War II, Elizabeth worked for the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington D.C.At the end of the war, she returned to her native Texas and taught in several cities around the state. While teaching in Galveston, she met Leonard Zwaska, whom she married in 1946. They had four children, Margaret Anne Murrey (Dallas), Paul Allen (Dallas), Kathryn Jean Morris (Newport Beach, CA), and David Lyn (Dallas). She has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Elizabeth taught full-time for more than three decades in Dallas Independent School District before retiring. After retiring at 65, she couldn’t stay away from the classroom for long, so she continued substitute teaching for sixteen years in the Lakewood area. When her husband, Leonard, required care at home, she left the classroom and dedicated her time to him until he passed away in 2002.Elizabeth lived a full life, enjoying time with family, friends and neighbors. She was always willing to open her home to those who needed a safe haven, whether for a holiday meal or for a place to call home.Elizabeth’s dedicated family cared for her at her home for many years until her final moment on this earth.
