LaVerne was born in Rylie, Texas, on Wednesday, July 25, 1928. From an early age, she nurtured her faith as a member of Rylie Christian Church, where she discovered her lifelong love of the Lord. She attended Mesquite High School, where she was cherished as an honor roll student. One of her first jobs was at the Cotton Exchange in Dallas. LaVerne’s later careers reflected her strong work ethic and trailblazing spirit, from serving as Secretary to the CEO of Chilton Corporation and managing the Lakewood Country Club Tennis Club. Her commitment to leadership extended beyond her career, culminating in her service as President of Executive Women International’s Dallas Chapter.
LaVerne’s hobbies reflected her adventurous and social spirit. In the 1960s, she competed with the Texas Women’s Bowling Association, traveling often to regional tournaments. Her love of travel also took her to Las Vegas, where she enjoyed the excitement of slots, cards, and dice games, as well as several memorable cruise adventures and family ski trips. She frequently flew across the country to visit friends and loved ones, but her favorite tradition was the annual sun-soaked getaway to South Padre Island. For many years, LaVerne was also known for opening her home to friends and family to celebrate the annual Texas vs. Oklahoma football rivalry, a gathering that became a cherished tradition.
LaVerne's greatest joy was her family, and she poured her heart into caring for and entertaining them. She was a pillar of strength, a source of unwavering support, and a cherished mother, grandmother and aunt who made everyone feel welcome. The love she gave will live on in the memories treasured by her family.
