Evelyn R. Helms' Obituary
Helms, Evelyn passed away on May 8, 2014 at the age of 88. She was born in Electra, Texas in 1925. The oldest of eight siblings, she completed Registered Nurse (RN) training at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 18. At the age of 19, she was nurse-in-charge of a pediatric ward at St. Paul Hospital. Evelyn married Robert E Helms, Jr. (Bob) at the age of 20. After Bob’s return from Japan in 1946, they lived in College Station, Texas, where Evelyn worked as a nurse and Bob completed his accounting degree at Texas A&M. Thereafter, they lived in Dallas. They were happily married for 62 years until Bob’s passing in 2007. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in the Dallas Women’s Club and numerous church and charitable activities throughout her life. She completed pilgrimages to Lourdes, France with Bob in 2000 and to Jerusalem with her daughter and two eldest grandsons in 2008. Evelyn is survived by her two children, Charles R. Helms and Karen E. Helms, both of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Rachel L. Helms; five grandchildren, Nathaniel R. Helms, John Henry Helms, James C.E. Helms, Rebecca M. Helms and Peter G. Helms; brother, Gary, and sisters, Hattie, Rosemary, Ethel, Leona, and Cecilia. A rosary will be held at St. Rita Catholic Church, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas at 10:00AM on Tuesday, May 13, with the funeral Mass immediately to follow.
