Fern Kathryn Hauck's Obituary
Fern Kathryn Hauck, née Goodwin, age 96, of San Antonio, Texas (formerly of Richardson, Texas) passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021 after a full life. She was born on November 18, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri to Harold and Kathryn Goodwin, who preceded her in death, along with her baby brother Kenneth Goodwin. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, Fern worked as a stenographer for several insurance companies. She married Gene Hauck in April 1948 in St. Louis. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage and had three children together. Fern was a homemaker who delighted in hosting family holiday gatherings, pool parties, and bridal and baby showers. She stayed active as a Cub Scout leader in St. Louis and as a Camp Fire Girl leader in Dallas. Later on, Fern volunteered at JoEllen Smith Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana for ten years. She was active in the Presbyterian Church her entire adult life, serving as an Elder in Dallas and participating in women’s circles for many years in Richardson. In retirement, Fern and Gene enjoyed traveling to several destinations in the United States and abroad. Fern is loved and will be missed by her children: Donna Lawson of San Antonio, Texas; Larry and Linda Hauck of Olathe, Kansas; and Randy and Res Hauck of Lancaster, South Carolina. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Rudy and Marivel Hernandez; Rosario and Greg Higgs; Marissa and Kyle Helm; Autumn and Jonathan Hansen; Courtney and Brian Arnold; and Rebecca and Timothy Lindsay; her thirteen great-grandchildren and several other family members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fern’s name to Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church or Network of Community Ministries.
