Florence Alta Box's Obituary
Box, Florence Alta On October 1, 2009, Miss Florence Alta Box of Dallas,Texas went home to be with her Lord. She was proceeded in death by her parents, James Burnet and Norine Pounds Box, as well as her brother James Robert Box. Florence graduated from the Wills Point High School in 1930 and after three years of college, she returned to Wills Point to teach. After completing her BA and MA degrees at University of Texas, she taught four years at Flatona, Tx and two years at Victoria, Tx. In 1940 she moved to Dallas and went to work for the Internal Revenue Service, where she worked until her retirement in 1974. Florence fell in love with the people, culture and beauties of this world, traveling to 47 countries, some multiple times. She became an accomplished photographer documenting her travel experiences. Her books of memories brought joy for all her days. In 2002, she was honored by Dallas Baptist University as a recepient of the Ruth Award for her continued interest in preparation of students for teaching careers. Miss Box has been a member of the Park Cities Baptist Church for 52 years. It was in her beloved Loreta Craig Sunday School Class that she found her dearest and most cherished friends. Memorial service will be the Wildwood Chapel, Restland Memorial Park, Saturday, October 3, at 12:30p.m. with Rev. Jack Martin officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorial gifts may be made to Dallas Baptist University or the Park Cities Baptist Church, both of Dallas, Texas.
