Forrest L France's Obituary
Forrest L. France passed away on December 17, 2025, after a life defined by curiosity, dedication, and quiet excellence. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and a pioneering professional in computer systems and telecommunications.
Born on September 30, 1934, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, Forrest was the son of Forrest F. France and Lela J. Bond France. He spent his early years in Chickasha before moving with his family to Waurika, Oklahoma, in 1947, where he graduated from Waurika High School in 1952. He attended Arlington State College (now the University of Texas at Arlington) from 1952 to 1954 and later the University of Oklahoma from 1954 to 1956.
In 1956, Forrest married Wilma Jean Fisher. They had two children, Forrest David France and Cathryne Zane France. Although the marriage ended in divorce in 1967, Forrest remained a devoted and supportive father throughout his life.
In 1967, Forrest moved to Dallas, Texas, pursuing education in computer programming while working at Braniff Airlines. In 1969, he joined National Data Communications, contributing to early hospital communication systems. During this time, he met his soulmate and later wife, Lynda Jean Colston.
Forrest's career spanned decades at the forefront of computer systems, telecommunications, and software development. He worked with Astrodata Corporation, Rockwell International, Rockwell Collins, Banc-Tec, E-Systems, DSC Communications, and as an independent consultant. His work took him across the United States and internationally, including projects in Canada, Australia, Germany, Denmark, Italy, and Sweden. He played key roles in the development and management of complex, mission-critical communication systems for airlines, banks, telecommunications carriers, and government agencies.
Later in his career, Forrest founded a small business assisting companies with the creation and maintenance of computer networks, earning certification as a Novell Engineer and serving clients throughout the Dallas area. Even after retirement, he continued to contribute his expertise to significant government and defense-related programs.
Above all, Forrest was a problem-solver, a mentor, and a man who embraced change with confidence and integrity. He is remembered for his sharp mind, steady presence, and his sense of humor, which brought warmth and levity to both his work and his relationships.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Lynda Jean France; his children, Forrest David France and Cathryne Zane Staley; and his grandchildren, Alicia Nicole Hinn, Adam Staley, and Maggie Staley, along with extended family and friends who will miss him deeply.
Memorial gifts in honor of Forrest may be made to The Heights Church Christmas Ministry.
Checks may be made payable to The Heights Church, 201 W. Renner Rd., Richardson, TX 75080 (notate Forrest France).
